Karin Kühnel studied biochemistry at the FU Berlin and in Cambridge, where she also did her PhD studies. She then returned to Germany for a postdoctoral position at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund. Karin did her second postdoc at the Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg. Next, she moved to Göttingen, where she worked as a project and later group leader in the Department of Neurobiology at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. In September 2016 she became an editor at Nature Communication. Karin works in the London office of the journal and handles manuscripts in the areas of structural biology and protein folding.
In her talk, Karin Kühnel will talk about her work as an editor. She will also elaborate on the step from academia to publishing: her academic career as a group leader and which factors helped her make this step to Nature Communications.
