Marina Gebert is a group manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Marine Biotechnology and Cell Technology (EMB) in Lübeck, Germany. Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Marina Gebert studied Biology in Mainz and Hamburg, and earned her doctorate degree at the University of Hamburg and Regensburg on developmental physiology of plants in 2008. Since then, she has established herself as a group manager at the EMB. Her group „Aquatic Cell Technology and Aquaculture“ works on innovative projects as the isolation and utilization of fish cells, i.e. for the development of diagnostics and vaccines, the development of new foods from marine resources and the application of molecular and cell biological techniques in aquaculture.
Marina Gebert is holder of two patents, which she developed during her PhD and in her group at the EMB.
In her presentation, she will talk about the focus on applied research at the Fraunhofer Institute and in her research group and give a deeper insight into the specific requirements and the job profile of a group manager and possible career paths at the Fraunhofer Institute.
